Getting Organized for Tax Season

Getting ready for tax season is not a fun task. Searching through piles of receipts and pay stubs can be overwhelming. Fortunately, I have some ways to fight tax season worries with a few simple organization tips.

Organizing for taxes should start as soon as the new tax year begins in January. With all the different types of documents you need to file your taxes, it’s best to keep like items together using the Pile Smart Label Clips. These colorful clips act like a paper clip, but they have a tab that can be easily labeled, like a file folder. The clips can help turn a stack of papers into an orderly pile in a matter of minutes, and the clips are designed to keep the labels visible, even when piles are stacked on top of each other.

Receipts are the papers that pile up the quickest, so start by getting them under control. I like to store mine in the Small Green Barcelona Bag. I usually leave the bag in my car so that when I return with purchases, I can immediately put all my receipts into the bag. Believe me, if you don’t have a system for corralling those receipts, they’ll get lost, and lost receipts can hurt your income tax return.

Once I get home, I store my tax-related receipts in a Portable File Expanding Organizer. The 26 dividers are perfect for creating receipt categories. I also like using a label maker for the tabs. This way, I can quickly locate any given receipt.
