Essentials of Organizing

People often ask me what solutions I recommend to help them get organized.  If you’re on an organizational mission, then you can’t navigate the clutter without these 5 essentials!

  1. Clear Containers with Lids
These are a must-have when it comes to organizing everything from buttons to winter boots.  Clear containers give you the luxury of seeing what’s inside the container, without taking off the lid.  At the same time, the lid allows you to stack several containers on top of each other in order to maximize your vertical storage space. This is like a two-for-one deal, so take advantage of it!
  1.  Open and Closed Storage
Shelving helps maximize your storage space and can free up valuable floor space for other things. Open storage helps you get to items easily, and can also serve the purpose of decorating your space.  Closed storage (like cabinets and drawers) provides excellent storage, but hides items that you may not want to view all the time.
  1. Label Maker
Labeling items saves so much time in the long run because it makes it easier to find things and easier to put them away. I label everything – give it a try!
  1. Open Bins or Baskets
These allow you to store many different items in one space.  You wouldn't want your toothbrush too close to your hair brush! YUCK! Another bonus is you can easily reach into these types of bins or baskets and get what you need quickly.

  2. Filing System and Storage
We’re inundated with paper every single day. If you don’t have a plan for storing your important paper items, then you’re headed for a serious paper-clutter disaster. Get a filing system in order with labeled file folders and storage for your files to keep things orderly.

Now that you know SOME of the essentials... Happy Organizing!
