Four Easy Ways To Organize Laundry Routines

Love it or loathe it, doing the laundry is a fact of life. Bring order to your laundry room routine with these four simple tips.

Sort
Sort laundry as you toss them in the hamper. Use a three sorter hamper for whites, darks and delicates. It will save you loads (pardon the pun :) of time on laundry day.

Wash
Once you’re ready to do a load, make sure you have everything you need within easy reach: fabric softener, bleach, detergent and stain stick. Laundry room shelving that attaches above a washer and dryer, or placing storage baskets in between is your best bet!

If you’re washing items like lingerie, sweaters, or other delicate clothing, separate them from the rest of your load in a mesh bag. This will help keep clothes from becoming tangled and damaged.

Dry
Keep a small trash can in your laundry room to toss out lint that accumulates in the dryer. Buildup in your lint trap can be dangerous and prevents the dryer from doing its job. Make it a habit to clean it our after every load.

To dry delicate items, try a folding rack and let them air dry. Drying racks help preserve the shape and fit of delicate clothing.

Iron
Ironing boards eat up a lot of space in the laundry room. Instead, take advantage of vertical space and mount your ironing board on the wall so that you can fold it up when it’s not in use.

Iron rests are also a good idea. Avoid scorching blouses and dress pants by keeping your iron on a resting pad between uses.
